The Latest in QAD’s Production Orders Module

Posted on: March 16, 2022 | By: David Kwo | QAD Practice News, QAD Manufacturing, QAD Business Process

QAD’s newest iteration of the production orders module combines the best of both worlds when it comes to production orders processing: discrete work orders and advanced repetitive processing.

The discrete work order process is a finite production run that may be seen in a job shop or make-to-order environment. The advanced repetitive functionality is applicable when you are producing the same items over and over. Whereas before QAD had supported both these processes separately, it now offers one comprehensive manufacturing module to increase the convenience and efficiency of production order processing.

While still maintaining the capabilities of the former module, QAD’s new production orders module offers additional functionality it its ability to handle picking activities. The system allows users to reserve components at a location in a warehouse and then transfer that allocation to the production line as necessary, eliminating the need to back flush component inventory.

Users can also leverage bulk order picklists, taking a variety of production orders that are against a production line and creating one mass picklist to pull all the needed components. This functionality offers users more flexibility in handling the picking process for production orders.

Additionally, users can align backflush locations with both work centers and production lines (whereas in older versions of QAD this ability was limited). Once again, this gives more flexibility to reflect the actual movement of material on the shop floor, from the component warehouse to the production lines, as it relates to pick lists, allocations, reservations, and the locations where the backflush transactions will happen.
