Splitting Production Orders in QAD to Cope with Supply Chain Shortages

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause unforeseen disruptions to the United States’ supply chain, which have been further complicated by recent shipping delays and truck driver shortages. As a result, various goods and input materials have become scarce and their prices have risen. Luckily, QAD’s Production Orders capabilities can help to alleviate the impact the supply chain crisis may have had on your business’s production processes.

The Production Orders module in QAD allows users to split production orders into feasible segments when faced with a variety of issues, such unavailable materials or inputs and orders that exceed production capacity (if an order is too large, it may be difficult to coordinate punctual production and ensure adequate resources without splitting it) .

To determine if splitting production orders is necessary, user can monitor materials and inventory shortages using any of the following .NET-UI programs in QAD:

  • Component Check capabilities embedded in the Planning and Scheduling Workbenches
  • Production Order Component Viewer
  • Component Chk by Item/Order
  • Component Chk by Order/WorkCtr
  • Monitor Material Shortages
  • Manage Materials for Production Line
  • Manage Materials for Work Center

Production Order Split allows users to efficiently split large orders into more feasible smaller orders (scheduled). Once an order is fragmented into several smaller scheduled orders, they can be scheduled over time to ensure they are finished by their due date. The original order becomes a cumulative order that is referenced for production costs, routing, and traceability of the scheduled orders.

Benefits

  • Splitting allows planners and buyers to see the exact completion and need dates at a detailed level
  • Makes it easier to complete large orders by deadline
  • Increases adaptability in face of supply chain disruptions and other obstacles
