If you are a Business Central user, you should check out Logan Consulting’s “Business Central Tips and Tricks Guide.” The guide is jam packed with information on the ERP, from productivity tips to more advanced options within Business Central. It is designed to help you get the most out of your ERP, whether you are a new or longtime user. In this blog, we will highlight three features covered within the guide, but be sure to download our guide here to read more.

Finding Pages and Information with “Tell me what to do…”

Within Microsoft products, there is a search bar that reads “Tell me what to do…” You can utilize this when working with your ERP, or use ALT+Q for a shortcut. As soon as you type something into the field, Business Central will generate matches. You can check for results on your current page, or you can use the “Go to Pages and Tasks” section to check your entire document. Additionally, you can select “search in customer data” for more specific results.

Filter Criteria and Operators

When you are working with a large amount of data, one of the hardest parts is finding specific numbers. This is because the system will pull up all numbers in the data as a result. To make this process easier, Business Central allows you to filter your results by utilizing different symbols. This will make your work easier, as it will be less time consuming to comb through your data. In our guide, Logan has compiled a variety of sample symbols you can use as operators to further filter your results.

For example, you can utilize the ellipses symbol “ …” within your search to find a time interval. If you filter your data by typing “1100… 1200,” the system will display the records for numbers 1100 through 1200. “…12 31 00” will generate dates up to and including 12/31/2000. Other shortcuts include “@man*”, which will display results that start with “man” and are case sensitive. Check out our guide for more of these shortcuts.

Viewing and Editing in Excel

With pages that display records in rows and columns, you can export the entire list into Excel to view your information in an easier format. You can choose between “open in Excel” or “edit in Excel.” When you open in Excel, your data will be formatted identically to how it was configured in Business Central. However, edits you make to the document at that point will not be reflected within Business Central. On the other hand, if you want to edit your information, you can use “edit in Excel.” However,  Excel will only respect most of the filters within your records instead of all of them.
