Microsoft CRM Release Cycles

Posted on: May 13, 2011 | By: SuperUser Account | Microsoft Dynamics CRM

One of the complaints we have received over the years about Microsoft CRM is that the release cycles are too long. In order words, why was CRM 2011 released three years after the previous version, CRM 4.0?

Microsoft does listen to feedback and has recently committed to a much more regular release schedule. Microsoft have gone to a semi-annual (twice a year) release schedule for Microsoft CRM.

Both automatic updates and scheduled updates will be released for Microsoft CRM Online. It is pretty safe to say that automatic updates will be smaller in scope than scheduled updates. Microsoft CRM Online customers will get to choose the time of their update for scheduled releases within a one-year timeframe from release.

You can expect a Spring and Fall schedule for both on-premises and CRM Online updates. The next updates are currently scheduled for Q4 of calendar 2011 and Q2 of calendar 2012.

In the next post I will update on some high-level plans for Microsoft CRM.
