Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 and Convergence

During Convergence 2011, we had the opportunity to take a deep dive in the upcoming AX release, Dynamics AX 2012. A number of very compelling features quickly became evident. Though this is simply a selected list of new features, some of the features that immediately jumped out as game changers were:

  • Excel integration to export and import and share data from the database in real-time offers users with a set of tools not previously seen in the ERP space. The impact on productivity and efficiency is obvious.
  • The user interface is even more intuitive than in AX 2009 and will be easily adopted by any user with experience in Microsoft Office functions.
  • Interoperability with Microsoft Office, including MS Word and MS Excel will make the creation of forms, communications, and distributions intuitive and will eliminate the need for IT support or development activities.

The above are simple, high-level features that don’t even address the expanded functionality within the application itself related to manufacturing planning, mixed mode manufacturing, budgeting, etc. More blogs will follow to address the expanded functionality but suffice to say Dynamics AX 2012 is an impressive release.
