Why a Portal Matters for Wholesale Distributors

Posted on: June 22, 2015 | By: Jim Bertler | Acumatica

We work with many wholesale distributors and when they are searching for a new system the first step is always requirements gathering.  As we review requirements the concept of a customer portal always comes up.  Different companies have different opinions on customer portals.  At Logan Consulting we are proud to represent Acumatica which has a great customer portal.  Let's list out the functionality of the Acumatica portal and then discuss why is it important. With the Acumatica Customer portal you can:

  • Allow orders to be placed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Provide status updates on an order at any time
  • Provide inventory and pricing data from the ERP system so it is always up-to-date and accurate

So that is a great feature list, but why does it matter?  It matters because regardless of your business the Acumatica portal allows your sales and customer service team to be more productive.  Instead of doing basic, mundane tasks, they can focus on driving real value to your customers.  So instead of a sales call starting with a discussion of the status of an order or how many items are in stock of a specific item you can focus on new items that a customer may need from you.  Or update the customer on a new product line your company is rolling out.

As I said each company seems to have a different opinion on portals, but I think we all agree that the Acumatica Customer Portal does serve a purpose and can provide value to an organization.
