When you use Microsoft Dynamics Customer Engagement (CE) in an Insurance Environment, you can leverage many functionalities that come with a related family of products called the Power Platform.

In our last blog, we discussed using built-in workflow functionality to generate email alerts for use in various situations.

Let’s look at two built-in field functions that can be used for calculating age that is always up to date, and a method to provide an always up to date total for things like how many active policies the client has or how many open cases a client has.

For insurance agencies, having an always current age based on a birthdate is critical for certain types of policies that are age sensitive.

It would seem that calculating age is a simple issue, but in fact usually required extensive code to produce an accurate number that is always up to date and accommodates leap years.

Using built-in D365 functionality called a calculated field, we can set a few formulas and logic to calculate age correctly based on a given birthdate, and the system keeps this up to date by evaluating this twice a day. This same type of field can also be used to calculate time periods between certain dates in days, months, and years.

Another related field, call a rollup field can calculate totals and display them on a related record. For example, the number of open cases or active policies for quick reference on the customer main record

This very handy when to be able to quickly assess summary information regarding a customer Account.

As you can see, D365 CRM provides many handy built-in functionalities to help automate items that previously would have required a developer. Another reason to look at the Power of the D365 platform!
