Creating Routings in Business Central

Posted on: February 20, 2022 | By: Jim Bertler | Microsoft Dynamics Business Central

Routings are one of the fundamental aspects of operations for manufacturers. The routing gives companies a visualization of the assembly process and helps to direct how a product comes together by outlining process scheduling, capacity scheduling, scheduled assignment of necessary materials, and pertinent manufacturing documentation. The routing houses all of the data that details how to cultivate an end product.

Business Central aids manufacturers by providing a tool that simplifies the routing creation and implementation task. Let’s go over how to create a routing now.

Creating a Routing

In order to set up your unique routing, follow these steps:

  1. Type “Routings” into the search bar, and select the corresponding result.
  2. Select New
  3. Fill in all relevant fields. If you are confused about what a field means, you can hover over the box to read a brief description.
  4. Once you get to the Type field, choose Serial in order to find out the production routing based off of the value in the Operation No. box. Choose Parallel in order to carry out the calculations based off of the value in the Next Operation No. field.
  5. You can edit the routing by changing the Status field to New or Under Development. You can activate the routing by setting the Status field to Certified.
  6. You can now fill in the routing lines, specifying numbers, resources, connecting codes, run and setup times, and capacities.
  7. Certify your routing
  8. You can now link this routing to the end product it’s detailing by filling in the Routing No. field.

The process of creating and activating routings is made much easier by Business Central’s manufacturing module.
