The Future of Dynamics GP

Posted on: November 28, 2022 | By: Jim Bertler | Microsoft Dynamics GP

The future of Dynamics GP seems to come up every year or two. And every year or two the same cycle happens. Rumors start that Dynamics GP is going away. There is concern and confusion amongst the partners and users. Then Microsoft clarifies. This cycle occurred again in late October with the same result as always…… Dynamics GP is not going away!!

This time people at the Microsoft Dynamics Communities Summit tradeshow said they were in a session where Microsoft specifically announced Dynamics GP was officially ending. Logan Consulting, as a leading Microsoft Dynamics Partner, has been an exhibitor at the show for years. We had at least three different people from different companies come up to our booth and tell me Dynamics GP was done. I was skeptical and took my time to do the research. So here is the answer.

Microsoft Dynamics GP is not going away. In fact, Microsoft committed to annual releases for the foreseeable future!! Now, there won’t be new modules or innovative functionality being released. However, there will be annual releases with small improvements based on user suggestions. Most importantly, Dynamics GP will continue to be supported by Microsoft. Essentially the Dynamics GP you are using today is the Dynamics GP that will be available in five, six, or ten years.

Now if you are a leading company trying to use technology as an advantage Dynamics GP is probably not the solution for you. If you want a cloud-based solution that works via a web browser than Dynamics GP is probably not the solution for you. However, if you want a solid ERP solution and Dynamics GP currently meets your needs or if you have other projects to tackle before finding a new ERP solution then you can certainly stay with Dynamics GP.

We will continue to write about this topic and be presenting webinars next year about moving to Dynamics 365 Business Central. If you have any questions feel free to contact us.
