Posted on: March 29, 2021 | By: Jarrod Kraemer | Microsoft Dynamics AX/365, Microsoft Dynamics Manufacturing

Use Dynamics 365 for Supply Chain Management to plan the transportation of ordered items to your warehouse. By planning item transportation and receipt of the inbound load, you can ensure proper landed cost and accurate costing. D365 allows accurate and timely costing of item transportation through increased financial and logistical visibility into the extended supply chain. Specific cost prediction also enables improved and more agile decision-making, reducing costing errors. By planning timely inbound transportation with Dynamics 365, you can maximize item profitability, reduce internal follow-up calls from logistics, and improve warehouse planning through better visibility.

Inbound Logistics

By using Dynamics 365 for Supply Chain Management, you can reduce transportation costs by improving inbound logistics. This can be done by building strategic relationships with your suppliers, using a transportation management system (TMS) for dynamic rates of freight costs, or consolidating inbound freight deliveries. Online routing guides, for example, can adapt to changes in the shipping landscape such as fluctuating rates. By determining optimal routes, you can limit rogue expenses and eliminate non-authorized carriers. Additionally, a TMS can give you visibility of market rates, which in turn offers access to optimal rates and costs.

Business Process Flow for Planning Inbound Load Transportation

  • Create or modify an inbound load for shipping.
  • Assign a rate and route to the inbound load.
  • Optional: Consolidate multiple shipments into a load.
  • Confirm a load for shipping.
  • Plan appointments for a load.
  • Register driver check-in and check-out for an appointment.

Optimized Transportation

Dynamics 365’s transportation management module lets you efficiently plan inbound transportation while ensuring on-time delivery and accurate shipment. Further, you can drive down costs by optimizing the shipping process based on the due date, cost, and equipment capacity. D365 for Supply Chain Management offers end-to-end visibility of order, payment, and delivery, which allows substantial lead time reduction and improved transportation processes. By analyzing all factors which can have a direct or indirect bearing on transportation logistics, you can achieve accurate shipments in a timely manner. A unified view of all existing carriers and how they rank against one another further helps you to choose the carrier network which is performing at the optimum level while saving time and costs.
