How NetSuite Is Bringing Practical AI to ERP

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how organizations manage operations, analyze data, and make decisions. While many companies are still exploring how AI fits into their business strategy, Oracle NetSuite is already delivering practical AI capabilities directly within its ERP platform. Recent updates and demonstrations from NetSuite’s AI leadership team showcase how organizations can use AI not only to gain insights, but also to automate work, improve reporting, and drive operational efficiency.

A New Approach to AI in ERP

NetSuite’s AI strategy focuses on three distinct areas that work together to enhance business operations. The first is machine learning-driven functionality already embedded within the platform. These capabilities analyze historical data to identify anomalies, surface exceptions, and support more accurate planning and forecasting. The second layer is Generative AI, which allows users to interact with ERP data using natural language. Instead of manually building reports or navigating complex menus, users can simply ask questions and receive answers in the form of summaries, dashboards, charts, or narratives. The third layer is Generative Automation, where AI-powered agents can execute business processes on behalf of users. These agents can be trained using company-specific rules and workflows, allowing them to automate routine tasks while maintaining governance and control.

Turning ERP Data into Actionable Insights

One of the most compelling aspects of NetSuite’s AI strategy is its ability to combine data access, business context, and automation into a single experience. AI tools can access NetSuite reports, records, saved searches, and business processes while maintaining security permissions and audit controls. Every recommendation or action remains traceable back to the underlying source data, providing transparency and confidence in AI-generated outputs.

During recent demonstrations, AI was shown analyzing financial statements, identifying performance trends, highlighting variances, and generating executive-level summaries that would traditionally require significant manual effort. By combining financial data with organizational context, the AI was able to deliver board-ready insights in seconds.

Automating Complex Business Processes

Beyond reporting, NetSuite is demonstrating how AI can automate operational workflows. Examples included procure-to-pay analysis, accounts payable reviews, inventory monitoring, and accrual processing. In one demonstration, an AI agent reviewed approved but unbilled purchase orders, automatically generated accrual journal entries, created reversals, and produced a complete audit trail linking every transaction back to its source documents. This type of automation allows finance and operations teams to spend less time on repetitive administrative tasks and more time focused on strategic activities.

Strong Adoption and Real Business Results

Organizations are already beginning to see measurable benefits from these AI capabilities. NetSuite reported rapid adoption growth for its AI Connector, with customer usage increasing significantly in recent months. Real-world examples shared during the session included organizations automating inventory adjustments, commission calculations, order entry processes, reporting, and financial analysis. One customer reported approximately 5,000 hours of annualized time savings through AI-enabled automation and process improvements.

Looking Ahead: NetSuite Next

NetSuite’s future roadmap continues to build on this foundation. Upcoming enhancements include Ask Oracle, a natural language interface embedded directly within the ERP, dynamic reporting experiences, AI-generated business insights, and expanded support for AI agents operating within the application. Importantly, organizations investing in NetSuite AI today will be able to carry those capabilities forward as the platform evolves.
