Focus on Project Team training workshops prior to Conference Room Pilot

As part of the Logan Consulting ERP Implementation Methodology, the Validation and Testing Phase calls for two Conference Room Pilots, commonly known as CRP’s. In advance of the first CRP, the Core Project Team is responsible for documenting and gaining approval for CRP test scripts, which should represent the business process related test scenarios that the ERP functionality must support at Go-Live.

CRP’s are formal testing events, during which the emphasis should be on executing the CRP test scenarios and not trying to learn the functionality for the first time. Given the importance of completing the CRP scripts ahead of the CRP’s, the Core Project Team can be tempted to spend less time on practicing the ERP related functions prior to the CRP that fall under their Workstream and ownership.

Core Project Team members should calendar and dedicate frequent practice sessions or workshops, with the aid of supporting consultants if needed. These sessions do not need to be long in duration, but should be repetitive in nature. Frequent practice entering, printing and confirming Sales Orders, for example, will lead to smoother CRP’s which focus more on Validation and Testing than trying to figure out how to execute functional ERP tasks for the first time.

Learning how to use a new ERP system during an implementation is always time consuming and often a never-ending process due to the complexity and vast functionality of most ERP applications. Having said that, earlier project focus on repetitive functional practice will increase the effectiveness of any CRP and eventually the system Go-Live!
