AI and QAD: What We’re Telling Our Clients Right Now

There’s a lot of noise in the market right now about AI in ERP. Vendors are making bold claims, clients are asking hard questions, and the gap between what’s being promised and what’s actually deployable is wider than most conversations acknowledge. As QAD’s longest-tenured consulting partner, we believe our clients deserve a straight answer grounded in real platform knowledge, so here’s ours.
The path to modernization starts with Adaptive ERP.
QAD’s Champion AI suite represents a genuinely thoughtful approach to AI in manufacturing. Rather than bolting generic AI onto an existing platform, QAD has architected Champion as a native capability within Adaptive ERP. That architectural decision matters. With one notable exception, the Procurement Champion agent, which emerged from QAD’s acquisition of Kavida and is designed to extend beyond traditional ERP boundaries. By orchestrating supplier workflows outside the core ERP, every Champion agent is built with Adaptive as the foundation. If your organization is still on an earlier QAD version, the modernization conversation and the AI conversation are increasingly becoming the same conversation.

What Champion AI Actually Is
Champion is an umbrella of agents spanning QAD’s broader product portfolio, including ERP, EQMS, Redzone, and others. Today, Buyer Champion, Production Champion, and Knowledge Champion are available for hands-on exploration. Additional agents, including Inventory Champion and Champion Pace, QAD’s agentic AI capability focused on accelerating ERP migration and setup activities, are in active development. We’re working directly with QAD to get clearer availability timelines so we can give clients an accurate picture as the roadmap matures.
Our Honest Take on Timing
Manufacturing has always been a thoughtful adopter of new technology, and that’s not a weakness. It’s how the industry protects operations that can’t afford disruption. Our view is that QAD is investing heavily and the direction is right. But for most manufacturers, AI decisions needs to be more of a readiness consideration rather than just a buying one
This means two things for clients right now:
Get to Adaptive. Streamlined is the preferred path. The clients who modernize now will be positioned to adopt AI capabilities as they reach maturity, without a scramble.
Understand your token economics. If you’re piloting or evaluating Champion, make sure you know what your token allocation includes, what overage looks like, and whether that’s factored into your ROI model. It’s a detail most clients haven’t worked through yet, and it matters.
