Workflow Management and Business Fit in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012
Posted on: August 5, 2014 | By: Jarrod Kraemer | Microsoft Dynamics AX/365
An ERP implementation or an upgrade is a project that contains much excitement as new features and technologies will be available to a business. Underneath all of the bells and whistles that a new system contains is a workflow benefit that does not get as much fanfare.
Typically when a new roll out occurs, it allows a business to take a step back and asses the way they are conducting business. This is an opportunity where users can review their day to day activities and make sure these can be replicated in the new system. More often than not a business process is included that involves a level of review or sign off. Many businesses could operate more efficiently if those approvals could be handled automatically and in real time.
AX 2012 addresses these needs by implementing workflow. Workflow allows companies to map their business processes and insert approvals, or trap transactions where applicable. This creates an extra layer of system control for those transactions or processes that need extra attention without disrupting everyday transactions. Instead of waiting until the end of the day to submit approval paperwork, these monitored transactions will be sent to the appropriate party in real time. That purchase order that gets approved at the end of the day, and sent out the following morning, will now be in your vendor’s inbox by lunch.
