Serialization in QAD

QAD’s serialization functionality allows companies to build an embedded inventory structure so that product can be moved, shipped, received, and consumed in a consolidated fashion. Serial ID numbers (also called license plates) are created and applied to units so that they can be tracked and moved efficiently. The functionality provides the ability to create inventory records and packaged inventory that show the breakdown and organization of boxes, cartons, pallets, and so on. Overall, serialization improves efficiency and accuracy in regard to inventory control and accuracy.

At a high level, serialization in QAD gives users the capability to define specific packaging material that is consumed along with certain packages (such as packing peanuts or packing tape). Consolidated volumes of material can be moved and tracked throughout a production facility as they are received, inspected, stored, utilized in production, and shipped out the door.

Specific benefits include:

  • Improved assurance of material quality
  • More inventory visibility and enhanced tracking
  • More accurate shipping, receiving, and order fulfillment transacting

The benefits of serialization can be taken even a step further with handheld technologies that print labels with the serial ID created during the serialization process, allowing users to move large volumes of inventory with single scans.

Logan Consulting’s methodology can include serialization processes in the scope of design meetings during a new QAD implementation project, or implement serialization in a live, mature QAD environment.
