Production Sequencing in D365

Posted on: April 5, 2019 | By: Minela Covic | Uncategorized, Microsoft Dynamics Manufacturing

In today’s competitive production environment many manufacturers are running as lean as possible. It is important to always be looking for ways to minimize expenses. When producing different variations of a similar product, a great way to minimize expense is to minimize setup times. The more time that you can spend producing a product, rather than setting up to produce a product, the better. Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations’ sequence management tool is a great way to sequence your batch orders in a way that is most efficient for you company.

Take paint for example. There may be a cleaning process that needs to be done when switching colors of paint. Maybe this cleaning process takes longer when you switch form blue to white, but when you switch from white to blue it is much quicker. Sequencing in D365 can help by not only generating planned orders but generating sequenced planned orders. These sequenced planned orders can be used as recommendations for what to produce first. There are released the same way that planned orders are but are sequenced in a way to maximize efficiency and minimize setup time.

You accomplish this by creating and assigning sequence values to an item or item group. Along with some other setup your sequenced planned orders will generate based on the values that you have created. This makes it much easier on the planner to see which planned orders should be released first to save time and cost.
