Phantom BOMs – Refresher

Phantom BOMS can be used in D365 in environments where there can be several levels of BOMS.
- These BOMS prevent the stocking of intermediate inventory
- This setup allows for quicker processing of orders and BOMs
- BOM Explosions can be leveraged on PO’s for purchasing the components
The setup
An item is classified as a phantom on the released product
BOM Setup
A BOM header and version is setup for the phantom item and the BOM lines are the components of the BOM.
BOM Application
This item can be applied to other BOMS in the system for easy use. In the scenario I setup we can see that the phantom packaging BOM is applied to a meal kit delivery item. Think of all the time this would save if the phantom packaging BOM contained 30 packaging lines.
The BOM lines of the production order to create the meal packaging kit would have all packaging components and the ribeye. Planning would also factor these requirements.
