How to Create Service Orders in Business Central

Microsoft Dynamics Business Central offers a variety of features that enables the simple processing of service orders for repairs, maintenance, or requests on service items. In this blog post, we will walk through how to create a service order and other related features.

How to create a service order

  1. Enter “Service Orders” in the search bar and choose the desired link.
  2. Create a new service order.
  3. In the No. field, enter a number for the service order. If your platform already has a previously determined number series for service orders, you can directly press Enter to use the next available service order number.
  4. In the Customer No. field, choose the desired customer. This will auto-fill the relevant fields with information from the Customer table.
  5. If applicable, fill in the Service Order Type and Salesperson Code fields.
  6. Register the service item lines.

How to create a service order from a contract

  1. In the search bar, enter “Create Contract Service Orders” and choose the desired link.
  2. In the Service Contract Header FastTab, select the desired filters.
  3. In the Options FastTab, enter in the Starting Date and Ending Date with your desired time period in which the contract service orders will be created. This will allow for the creation of service orders that include items in contracts with upcoming service dates within this period.
  4. In the Action field, select Create Service Order.

How to check item availability for one or more orders

  1. In the search bar, enter “Dispatch Board” and choose the desired link.
  2. Choose the order for a particular service order and then click Demand Overview. Alternatively, choose Show Document to open the Service Order page.
  3. On the Demand Overview page, item availability can be viewed by expanding the item grouping. This will allow users to view how many items are in inventory and if/when items will be restocked.
