From Copilot to Colleague: A Field Guide to Dynamics 365 AI Agents
Posted on: August 14, 2026 | By: Heather Zhu | Microsoft Dynamics AX/365

Microsoft’s first wave of Dynamics 365 agents was easy to summarize: ten new digital coworkers across sales, service, finance and supply chain. That headline did not survive contact with the product roadmap. This is Part 1 of Logan Consulting’s Dynamics 365 Agent Field Guide, a practical overview of the Microsoft-provided AI agents you can deploy across Dynamics 365, and what “out of the box” really requires.
25 named agent experiences, one important caveat
Deployable does not mean self-deploying. Research current through August 12, 2026.

The Overview
Microsoft has built an agent bench. Now comes the coaching.
By August 2026, Microsoft documents a much broader set of named agents across Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service, Contact Center, Field Service, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Project Operations and Business Central, plus role-based agents that bring Dynamics data into Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Our current count is 25 deployable, Microsoft-provided agent experiences. It is a Logan Consulting synthesis, not a permanent Microsoft SKU count. Names are changing, several agents remain in preview, and Microsoft sometimes describes an orchestration layer, a skill and a user-facing experience with the same word: agent. The catalog is real. The taxonomy is still doing yoga.

Executive Takeaway
A Copilot waits for a prompt. An agent can watch for a condition, reason over business context, take a bounded action and return an exception to a person. The practical difference is less conversation and more accountability.

What counts in this guide
| Included | Not counted |
|---|---|
| Microsoft-provided agents that can be installed, enabled or configured now. Preview agents are clearly marked. Microsoft 365 role agents are included when Dynamics is a supported system of record. | Embedded Copilot summaries, form-fill assistance, MCP servers, agent feed, rollout tooling, intent-driven routing, and conceptual templates Microsoft says are not yet downloadable. |
Revenue Agents
Sales has the deepest bench, and the widest risk range.
Dynamics 365 Sales now spans research, qualification, record hygiene, opportunity intelligence, prioritized action and autonomous engagement. That breadth matters: not every sales process should begin with the most autonomous option.
| Agent | What it does | State |
|---|---|---|
| Sales Qualification Agent | Researches leads, scores fit against a target customer profile, drafts outreach and can engage until handoff. Research-only and research-and-engage modes are supported. | AVAILABLE |
| Sales Opportunity Agent | Combines CRM, email, meeting and web signals to surface opportunity risks, stakeholder movement, competitor context and next actions. | AVAILABLE |
| Sales Close Agent | Runs templated outreach and follow-up for high-velocity, low-complexity deals. Recommends products, handles common objections and can drive toward a transaction. | PROD-READY PREVIEW |
| Sales Research Agent | Answers strategic questions over Dynamics 365 Sales data and optional files or Fabric data, returning research blueprints, visuals and next steps. | AVAILABLE |
| Recommended Actions Agent | Prioritizes actions generated by Microsoft or custom agents so sellers can work from one ranked queue rather than scattered insights. | PREVIEW |
| Data Enrichment Agent | Reads permitted Outlook and Teams context to suggest, or automatically apply, configured opportunity-field updates with audit history and revert controls. | AVAILABLE |
| Sales Agent in M365 Copilot | Brings CRM-grounded search, synthesis, meeting preparation and actions into Outlook, Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Dynamics 365 Sales. | AVAILABLE |
Logan POV
Start with insight and data quality before customer-facing autonomy. Opportunity research and enrichment expose weak CRM discipline safely. Autonomous outreach exposes it publicly.

The customization story is stronger than the phrase “out of the box” suggests. Admins can define target profiles, record filters, knowledge sources, research topics, playbooks, product catalogs, email instructions, handoff criteria and update behavior. Sales agents can also be moved across environments as Power Platform solutions, a useful sign that Microsoft expects governance and application lifecycle management, not cowboy configuration.
Service Agents
Service is becoming an agent system, not a single chatbot.
Microsoft’s service architecture now divides work across customer-facing assistance, representative support, case execution, knowledge, intent, quality and contact-center operations. Several capabilities overlap by design, and several names are still converging.
| Agent | What it does | State |
|---|---|---|
| Service Agent | A representative-facing assistant in Copilot Service workspace and Microsoft 365 Copilot that retrieves, summarizes, drafts and performs supported case actions. | GA |
| Case Management Agent | Creates and updates cases, supports resolution, follow-up and closure, and can run with confirmation, full automation or shadow-mode evaluation. | AVAILABLE |
| Customer Intent Agent | Discovers intents from historical interactions, maintains an intent library and improves self-service, assisted service and voice experiences. | AVAILABLE |
| Customer Knowledge Management Agent | Turns resolved cases, conversations, emails and notes into governed knowledge articles. Can support review, publishing and minor updates. | AVAILABLE |
| Quality Management Agent | Unifies Quality Evaluation and Governance skills to score interactions and check outbound communications against policy, compliance and content-safety rules. | GA |
| Customer Assist Agent | Prebuilt Contact Center agent for autonomous self-service, live representative assistance and proactive customer outreach across digital and voice channels. | VARIES |
| Quality Assurance Agent | Monitors live and completed contact-center conversations for quality, compliance, alerting and coaching signals. | VARIES |
| Service Operations Agent | Provides conversational setup, validation and troubleshooting for contact-center administrators and operations teams. | VARIES |
The practical lesson is architectural. These agents share cases, conversations, knowledge, routing, policies and monitoring. Deploying one without naming the owner of those underlying assets creates a very modern way to rediscover an old problem. Case resolution, for example, depends on intent quality, knowledge quality, mailbox setup, security and escalation behavior, not merely a toggle.
ERP and Operations Agents
The strongest use cases sit where volume meets rules and exceptions.
ERP work is unusually agent-friendly. Transactions are structured, permissions matter, and the value of reducing repetitive review is measurable. The current Microsoft set concentrates on reconciliation, procurement, project administration and scheduling.
| Agent | What it does | State |
|---|---|---|
| Account Reconciliation Agent | Continuously compares subledgers and the general ledger, flags exceptions and recommends resolution steps to keep close in a state of readiness. | PROD-READY PREVIEW |
| Procurement Agent | Supplier Communications follows up on confirmations and interprets vendor email changes. Impact Analysis tests downstream effects of PO date and quantity changes. | PROD-READY PREVIEW |
| Time Entry Agent | Creates draft time from project assignments, bookings and prior patterns, adds context and reminds users about missing submissions. | PROD-READY PREVIEW |
| Expense Agent, Project Ops | Extracts receipt data, creates and itemizes expenses, groups reports and supports email, mobile and app-based intake. | PROD-READY PREVIEW |
| Approvals Agent | Performs an initial policy-based review of time, expense and material entries and directs approvers to records that need attention. | PROD-READY PREVIEW |
| Scheduling Operations Agent | Optimizes one or many technician schedules against goals, weighted objectives and constraints, interactively or in batch plans. | PREVIEW |
Logan Reality Check
Best early candidates have four traits: high transaction volume, clear policy, reliable source data and a natural exception queue. If the process depends on tribal knowledge and heroic judgment, the agent will simply scale the ambiguity.

Microsoft’s deployment wizard in Copilot Hub now provides a common path for selected Finance, Supply Chain and Project Operations agents. It checks prerequisites, deploys managed solutions, establishes a dedicated agent identity, assigns roles and activates required configuration. That is meaningful progress, but each agent still has product-specific setup and post-deployment work.
Business Central and Cross-App Agents
Business Central may have the cleanest packaged-agent story.

| Agent | What it does | State |
|---|---|---|
| Sales Order Agent, BC | Monitors customer email, identifies customers and items, clarifies missing details, checks availability, drafts quotes and converts confirmations to orders. | GA |
| Payables Agent, BC |
