Leveraging Business Intelligence the Right Way Through the Logan Roadmap

Today, more than ever before, there are huge amounts of key players in the marketplace, driving competition and thus the need to evolve and respond to market demands. Companies rely on comprehensive data to guide their decisions, and business intelligence encompasses this method of analysis.
Business intelligence intertwines business analytics with data mining and data visualization to provide insight to companies on their organization’s performance, allowing them to make data-driven decisions on ways to improve operations through addressing inefficiencies, changing outdated processes, and quickly adapting to changes in the marketplace.
The Process and Method
For business intelligence to be effective, it’s crucial to follow a comprehensive process and method roadmap when analyzing data. Logan Consulting has identified a three-stage process and a developed method approach to implement BI analysis for our clients.
The Three-Stage Process
- Investigate the Current State: Interview key stakeholders and examine all elements of the current system to identify objectives, pain points, and a wish list for the future.
- Define the Future State: Once there is an understanding of the objectives, pain points, and wish list, we create a solution for the future.
- Create an Action Plan: After identifying the future solution, we conduct a gap analysis to determine the activities that will need to be prioritized to bring the future state to fruition.
The Method
There are three different methods we can choose from when utilizing BI to empower organizations’ decision making:
- Work from the top down: Understand the BI consumers and their needs: what provides value now, identify pain points, and listen to ideas.
- Formulate the new solution: Identify and demonstrate the platform, pattern, and process for delivering BI for the business.
- Work from the bottom up: Understand the BI producers–environment, data sources, and process.
This developed roadmap has guided Logan Consulting in helping clients re-envision BI so that it can result in better efficiency and increased understanding of company needs and priorities.
