What is Power BI?
Power BI is a grouping of software services, applications and connectors that work seamlessly together to transform your unrelated sources of data into clear, visually appealing, interactive insights. Power BI is a versatile collection. Power BI adapts to match your role. You can use it to crunch numbers, to create complex business reports, or to track sales quotas.
Power BI is an online service that can be added on to other databases associated with mobile applications and desktops applications. Power BI allows you to pull data from a wide array of visualizations, datasets, reports, dashboards, and tiles into one location. Power BI can connect to over 59 different cloud services, like Excel, Microsoft Dynamics, SharePoint and Acumatica. Additionally, Power BI can connect to your local database.
Power BI gives you the option of using a cloud version, on-prem version, or both. The cloud version provides your data with firewall protection, browser and mobile app, custom visuals, R visuals (advanced data shaping and analytics created with R scripts), ArcGIS maps, and monthly updates with new features and bug fixes. The on-prem version allows you to keep your data local and private. It also provides you with a browser and mobile application, with multiple updates per year. That being said, each version can fit any company, but it depends on the amount of detail and the complexity of your data that could determine which, if any, version you go should choose.
