Early Project Focus on Critical Manufacturing Data Important to ERP Implementation Success

In complex manufacturing environments, the maintenance of item master, bill of material, and routing data is critical to accurate costing, planning, and manufacturing. Unfortunately, in many ERP implementations, the focus on this data and the conversion of it from a legacy ERP system to the new ERP system starts too late!

Some ERP systems manage this data differently for planning, costing and manufacturing. As a result, it is important to start gathering, cleaning, converting and testing this data in the new ERP as soon as possible after the initial Design Phase is complete. At that point in the project, the team should know how the data will be structured to support the new business processes and can start to extract the data from the legacy system, transform (or map) the data to the new system, and load the data to the new ERP system. This ETL process can then be executed multiple times throughout the projects as needed.

Often, Project Teams do not put enough urgency on this specific data set and arrive at their first Conference Room Pilot event with an incomplete data set or an untested data.

Logan Consulting stresses early focus on all data conversion and ETL activities, and adds extra urgency to this critical data set as part of its implementations.
