The Benefits of Cloud ERP

Why Cloud ERP? This is a question you might be asking yourself before diving into an ERP implementation. Many view an ERP implementation as tedious, time consuming and costly, but in the end the benefits usually justify the investment. Companies have been implementing On-Premises ERP solutions for decades, but with the evolution of Cloud ERP, numerous additional ERP benefits can be recognized. A few of the more well-known benefits of Cloud ERP are subscription based payment plans, reduction of IT support resources and costs, and elimination of local IT infrastructure required to support an On-Premises ERP solution. While these are all great features of Cloud ERP, there are many other benefits that you might be unaware of. Let’s look at a few of them.

Modular Software Applications

Many Cloud ERP solutions are migrating toward a Modular Software or Application architecture. Modular software applications emphasize separating the functionality of an overall ERP system into independent, interchangeable modules, such that each contains everything necessary to execute only one aspect of the desired functionality. This is often done so that the modules or applications are easily accessible and employees can learn faster. This architecture is also extremely helpful for companies that have ever-changing needs. As a company grows and changes, it can adopt modules that it may not have needed previously.  In addition, upgrades can often be done on a module by module basis.

eCommerce

The term eCommerce has been around for years. However, moving to a Cloud ERP solution often offers additional eCommerce functionality and ease of integration with other organizations and institutions. Good examples include B2B portals integrated with Cloud ERP or more standardized banking integration for AP and AR.

Security and Uptime

Storing information in the cloud is unlike typical data storage with an On-Premises software solution. Cloud ERP has proven itself as secure despite concerns over data breaches and data loss. Cloud ERP generally offers similar security options as an On-Premises solution, such as role based user definition, permissions and access. Additionally, Cloud ERP providers have been able to abide by their stated SLA’s to provide uptime and backups as needed based on customer contract.
