MES Integration to QAD EA using QXtend

Logan Consulting continues to work with some of its manufacturing clients to integrate its QAD EA application with MES systems such as the InTouch shop floor management system.  Although many API’s and integration options exist, Logan Consulting continues to recommend QXtend as the most effective way to integrate these systems. The QXtend integration framework is available from QAD Inc. and specifically designed to work with QAD EA.

One recent approach used by Logan Consulting was to use QXtend Inbound Service Interface (SI) QDoc and AppServer programs to receive a production reporting feed from InTouch.  This SI program determines if the data feed should be recorded in QAD EA as one or more of the following programs and then sends the transaction to the QXtend Inbound UI via Progress QXtend API:

 – 17.1 Labor Feedback By Work Order

 – 16.12 Work Order Receipt Backflush

 – 16.10 Work Order Component Issue

 – 16.11 Work Order Receipt

 – 18.22.13 Backflush Transaction

The results of the transactions are then sent back to InTouch in the form of QXtend Response QDoc messages for InTouch to keep track of.  This real time allows managers to leverage real-time information about production processes, providing increased visibility and insight for better business decisions. Plant operators can also leverage business information to improve fulfillment.
