Cost Objects in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations

Ever since the D365 roll out, our team has been finding new features that were not originally highlighted during Microsoft’s 365 rollout, but have proven beneficial once a client has been live for a few months or years.  One of these features centers around item cost.  In previous versions of AX, to find cost per warehouse a user had to look at the on-hand inventory of an item and filter the data accordingly.  This was a multi-step process that was burdensome.  Now that information is contained on the item record.  Simply navigate to Production information management> Released products> Manage costs tab> Cost objects.

This screen will show the site and warehouse that has inventory along with an average unit cost of the item in that location.  From the screen shot it is easy to tell that there are some items that are missing costs.  It will also allow for analysis into what costs get applied on orders for different costing methods.  Clicking the cost entries will show a user what transactions went into the cost on a line. If we look at the 4th line in this screen shot we will see the transactions that brought us to the $75.56 cost entry.  Again, the required research to get to these numbers has drastically decreased.

The inventory statement and KPI button are complete re-engineered.  Running totals are calculated over a specified date interval.  Days in inventory, inventory turns, and inventory accuracy are tracked directly from the item.
