In my last blog, we talked about how to identify the version of Financial Reporter you are running. This month we can discuss the current version and some nice update features. If you are running Financial Reporter daily and noticed that the reports are taking longer and longer to generate you are not imagining things. You may be running an older version of Financial Reporter and the fix may be as simple as updating to the latest version.
This is accomplished by going into LCS and looking for the updated package in the Shared Asset Library, importing it into the Asset Library and applying it through the Environment/Maintain/Apply update command.
It is also a good idea to take a backup of the building block groups before applying the update. To backup the building block groups simple open the Financial Reporter and then select Building Block Groups in Company.
Click Export and then Select All and finally Export the tbxd file to a safe location.
We can then apply the update through LCS.
And select the update package.
This will take some time to complete and when done you should get a status update through LCS.
After the Financial Reporter update has been tested and approved in DEV, it can be moved into the other environments before requesting the update to be applied in PROD. When completed, you can verify the version number. One of the nice updates I like about the later version of Financial reporter is the addition of improved indexing on the data mart database, which speeds the report generation process up. Another nice update is that you can request a data mart refresh from the menu. If you notice that your reports are not pulling current or correct data or you restore a database from another environment the fix is usually a data mart refresh.
To queue the refresh in Financial Reporter simply select Reset Data Mart… from the Tools menu.
Tick Reset data mart box and supply a reason for the refresh. You usually do not want to tick the clear users and companies.
You will receive a notification to do this during non-production hours and depending on your database size this can take some time to complete.
That is all there is to it. If you have any questions on Management/Financial Reporter please to not hesitate in contacting up.
