QAD Item Attributes and Quality Control (IAQ) and Inventory and Lot Attributes

As previously discussed, with the release of QAD 2015 Enterprise Edition, QAD introduced new functionality called QAD Item Attributes and Quality Control (IAQ). IAQ has robust functionality in a number of areas, including the following:

  • Item Attributes
  • Inventory and Lot Attributes
  • Test Specifications
  • Quality Control for WIP and Production
  • Certificate of Analysis
  • IAQ Integration with QAD QMS

Previously, the first item above, Item Attributes, was discussed. Item Attributes addresses a typical need to “extend” the item master and maintain additional data that is not supported by the standard QAD Item Master.

This article introduces the second topic above, Inventory and Lot Attributes. For supported QAD receipt transactions, a user will be prompted to record lot or sub lot information for a given item. The user may also be prompted for this information when recording values on a lot attribute order, quality order, or test record.

Lot attribute orders provide the capability for recording values for lot and sublot attributes with test records that are not required. Quality orders provide the capability for recording values for lot and sublot attributes and results for test records.

You can only generate a lot attribute or lot attribute order if you specify a lot or serial when receiving an order. For certain receipt transactions, values for an item’s lot and sublot attributes can optionally be entered in the following transactions:

  • Purchasing receipts
  • Production receipts using Advanced Repetitive or work orders
  • Unplanned receipts
  • Inventory transfer transactions with a receipt in a different location

In order to view lot and sublot attributes, you can use the Browse Collection called View Item Lots. In this Browse Collection, for a given item lot, you can view the Item Lot Attributes, Inventory Detail and Transactions by Item on the three separate detail tabs. The Transactions by Item tab displays transaction history and attribute changes for the selected item lot. This tab displays the same information as the View Transaction Attributes by Item collection. There is also a fourth tab labelled as the Item Lot Attribute History Tab. This displays transaction history for the selected lot attribute.

The View Inventory Lot Attributes collection can be used to view inventory data for item lots. Use the View Transaction Attributes collections to view the inventory transactions associated with specific item lots. Use these collections to search for inventory transactions by date, item, order, or transaction number:

  • View Transaction Attributes by Date
  • View Transaction Attributes by Item
  • View Transaction Attributes by Order
  • View Transaction Attributes by Transaction Number

There is more detail and much more functionality in this area, but hopefully this provides a good introduction to this new and useful functionality.
