Microsoft CRM 2011 – Sub-Grid

Posted on: June 9, 2011 | By: SuperUser Account | Microsoft Dynamics CRM

I wanted to post about an exciting feature in Microsoft CRM 2011 called sub-grids. I realize the name doesn’t sound that inspiring, but the functionality is really useful. Since the earliest releases users have complained about Microsoft CRM having too many clicks. Microsoft CRM was essentially a horizontal tool as opposed to vertical. In other words, data and information was mainly shown on a series of tabs. The overall design of Microsoft CRM has changed this, but sub-grids have taken it to another level.

Sub grids allows for a related entity to be viewed, created or modified directly within a related entity. For example, the activities associated with a particular opportunity can be shown directly on the main tab of the opportunity form. New activities could also be added. The screen shot below is an example.

The sub-grid posted below shows how a chart or dashboard can be included in a sub-grid to surface more data to the user.

As you can see sub-grids are a great way to enhance the user experience and improve user adoption by reducing clicks and providing data to the user. If you want to explore sub-grids or Microsoft CRM 2011 in greater detail please contact us.
