Many of you may have missed it as it was released right after the first of the year, but Microsoft released a new Statement of Direction for Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains). You can download the whole document here.

The biggest news is the availability of a web client, but let’s cover a few other of the other enhancements first.

This is by no means an all-inclusive list, but here are some of the highlights that were mentioned:

Sub ledger Reconciliation – GP 12 will offer functionality to identify where General Ledger and Inventory Control transactions are not tied together. This functionality adds to the payables and receivables reconcile that is already available.

Bin Transfer – For those of you that keep inventory GP 12 will offer insight into when goods have been transferred from bin to bin.

Enhanced Document Attachments – GP 12 will offer improved electronic document management for purchasing and sales transactions and vendor, customer and inventory master records.

Now for the big news which is the availability of a web client. The web client will allow Microsoft Dynamics GP to work in a browser with only the browser installed locally. This will work for both on premises and cloud deployments. No word yet on what browsers will be supported, but the overhead reduction for maintaining GP will be awesome!
