Measuring the Success of Your ERP Implementation Plan

Analyzing your proposed ERP implementation plan starts with three key areas of assessment. First your project plan, then your measurables before and after implementation, and lastly, what your organization is trying to achieve as an outcome of the ERP implementation. Let’s walk through an analysis of an ERP implementation plan.

  1. Your Project Plan

    1. Start with examining expectations for the implementation plan. Use questions such as:

      1. What will be accomplished?

      2. What resources will be needed throughout implementation?

      3. Who is your key point of contact for the implementation?

      4. What are the key determinants of success (in the middle of implementation and the end)?

  2. Key Measurables

    1. Another mindset to have when reviewing your ERP implementation plan is focusing on real-world indicators and outcomes. Using quantifiable metrics to create a timeline that will allow you to stay on target throughout your implementation journey. Obviously, things can change down the road, but setting these measurable objectives before implementation helps map out long-term goals for the organization.

  3. End Goals

    1. This can be tricky to define in simplistic terms. Your end goals don’t always have to be quantifiable statements such as, “increase revenues by 17%”. Setting up broader goals such as “enhancing communication and visibility throughout the organization” helps provide a clear, yet achievable goal that the entire organization can take part in.
