While social media still connects individuals to family and friends, its purpose has become much wider. Businesses are now looking to social media as their go-to marketing method. Newspapers, billboards, and calling campaigns are becoming less popular as companies are investing more time and money into their social media presence. With apps like LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat businesses can choose to advertise free of cost while reaching a whole new target market. Becoming an internet sensation doesn’t happen overnight. Many millennials started their journey to internet stardom from a simple YouTube channel with no intention of profiting. Here’s a few tricks these influencers have used to stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Nothing is worse than scrolling through a new Instagram account and seeing the same ideas duplicated page after page. Not does this get redundant, but nothing stands out in the minds of followers to draw them in. Twenty-three-year-old fitness guru, Kayla Itsines, is a prime example of an internet influencer that found success quickly with her social media presence. Kayla has stayed focused and true to her own techniques that have transformed thousands of her followers. With a simple yet effective 28-minute workout regimen, Kayla pushes her followers to achieved their dream bodies without putting in hours every day at the gym. These workouts can be done at home which makes it the perfect routine for just about anyone. Her trick: REAL photos of REAL people. Simple as that! Scrolling through her Instagram feed it is undeniable that she has made a huge impact on the lives of many.

Of course, nothing comes easy during the early stages of developing a platform. Kayla and other social media gurus had to deal with many setbacks before hitting it big online. Evolving from a platform of a few hundred followers to 7 million is quite an adjustment. Like any business, these influencers considered feedback from their audience along the way.
