In the past, one of the biggest complaints of previous Dynamics AX users has been that many transactions from different modules in AX don’t generate a description on the line level that flows to the General Ledger. Now in Dynamics 365, default descriptions can be created for these transactions and can be configured is different ways to suit the customer’s needs.
To get started with configuring your Default Descriptions, go to General Ledger> Journal setup> Default descriptions
Select New at the top to create a new Default Description. When you use the drop down arrow on the Description field, you will see the various transactions that a default description can be setup for. Choose the transaction type you are setting up and fill choose the Language in the Language field.
In the Text field you can use fixed variables. These are called out in the reference field at the bottom of the screen. For example, if you want Invoice number, you would type “Invoice %2” in the Text field.
You must save the form before the Parameters section will become active. Based on the type of form you are modifying, the associated reference tables will become available. Choose the reference table and reference field that you want to pull into your description field when that type of transaction is created. You can add up to 3 additional fields in the Parameters section.
Now when you create a transaction, the fields you identified in the setup flow to the Description field in the Voucher.
