2 Free Microsoft Dynamics GP Tools That Can Make Your Life Easier

Posted on: August 10, 2015 | By: Jim Bertler | Microsoft Dynamics GP

How would you like a collection of free tools called the Microsoft Dynamics GP Professional Services Tools Library (PSTL)? We sifted through the library that has tons of useful tools to keep your records straight, here are 2 of our favorite tools.

Doc Date Verify

Go to the Miscellaneous Tools section on the PTSL to find Doc Date Verify. You can install the tool if you want to be notified when you enter a document date that is invalid depending on your Company Fiscal period arrangement in the system. If the document date isn’t within your setup fiscal period setup, the user will see a message that reads “A fiscal period for this date has not been set up.” Also, if you try to enter a date in a closed period, the user will see a message “ You cannot post to a date within in a closed period. Do you want to continue?”

The feature will ensure that you don’t accidentally post a transaction to a date that is years in the future. This feature is also really useful for companies that hard close fiscal periods. So, they can choose to still post to a closed period, but if this causes an issue for you later on the down the road, they cannot claim that they didn’t know it would happen. This way, everyone can be held responsible for their work, no exceptions.

Default AddItem POP/SOP

This is another tool that can be found in the Misc. Tools section. This tool is responsible for changing the default behavior for when dealing with items that aren’t inventoried like the Purchase Order Entry, Receivables Transactions Entry, Purchasing Invoice Entry and Sales Transaction Entry windows.

When you have this tool installed, if you enter a number that doesn’t exist in your inventory item list, the user is asked “Do you want to add this item?” It is still possible for the user to decide to not add the item, but at least they are notified that they are working with an item that isn’t included in the inventory.
