What’s New in Field Service?

Posted on: February 11, 2025 | By: Page Wildridge | Microsoft Dynamics Business Central

Microsoft recently celebrated their second launch event of 2024, full of new features and improvements to their software solutions. With the launch event, they also released a series of video tutorials on YouTube to help Business Central users understand the updates. In this blog, we will highlight the upcoming updates to field service within Business Central.

Integration with Service Management

Your field service software can now be integrated with service management to benefit technicians, management, and finance teams. Technicians and dispatchers will be able to check on inventory capability at different warehouses while in the field. This helps to maximize the time of your technicians and avoid wasted travel costs. To enable this integration, you need to ensure that you are running the premium user experience and that your software is connected to Dataverse. It is important to note that this integration will be rolled out in November of 2025, so these updates are coming to Dynamics 365.

Inventory Availability with Field Service

After you have enabled field service integration, you will be able to check the inventory of your items that are synchronized with field service. You can now hit, “availability by location,” which displays the stock of your product in each of your warehouses. This helps dispatchers who are scheduling work orders or technicians tracking inventory, cutting down on wasted time and allowing businesses to stay on top of their items.

Service Order and Work Order Alignment

Once the two are integrated, work orders added within either module will be reflected on the other. Now, when you navigate to service orders in Business Central, you can synchronize them to work orders. When you switch to Field Service, this information will automatically be copied to the corresponding work order.
