What Edition of Business Central Do You Need?
Posted on: September 24, 2020 | By: Josie Mah | Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
In an increasingly digital age, finding a suitable business management solution can be a daunting task. In order to help, we have created a simplified guide to picking the correct edition of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central based on your business needs. Currently, Business Central is offered in two different editions: Essentials and Premium, priced at $70 and $100 per user per month respectively. The question is, which edition do you need, and what is the difference between a Team Member license and a Full license?
Essentials vs. Premium
The biggest difference between Essentials and Premium lies in its manufacturing functionality. If you are a manufacturer who requires Bills of Materials, Routings, and Manufacturing Order Processing, the Premium license may be optimal. If your business doesn’t need these functions, the Essentials Edition of Business Central is likely sufficient.
The other difference between the editions lies in their service functionality. In other words, if you run a service desk and require Service Contract Management, Service Order Management, or Planning and Dispatching, the Premium edition of Business Central will best serve your business needs.
The following tables provide more information about Essentials and Premium features:
Team Member vs. Full License
Both Team Member users and Full License users can be attached to an Essentials or Premium Business Central edition. In essence, the licenses differ in that Team Member users are “read-only” users, while Full users are able to complete all actions (limited only by security settings). Although Team Member users have limited functionality, they can perform actions such as approving timesheets or purchase requisitions. Seeing as Team Member licenses are offered at the low price of $8 per user per month, incorporating Team Member licenses into your environment is an efficient way to open up information to users.
Dynamics 365 Sales
When discussing Business Central, a question we often receive is “What about Dynamics 365 Sales”? In other words, are businesses able to bundle Business Central with Dynamics 365 Sales? Unfortunately, there is no licensing bundle that includes both Business Central and Dynamics 365 Sales at this time.
