What Are Your Options as a Microsoft Dynamics GP User?
Posted on: March 31, 2025 | By: Page Wildridge | Microsoft Dynamics GP
Starting April 1st, 2025, Microsoft will end all sales of perpetual licenses for Dynamics GP to new users. Although Microsoft has assured users that they will support current GP users until 2031, the end of sales signals that Microsoft is moving their attention away from their on-premise product. In this blog, we will cover next steps for GP and what this approaching date means for you and your business.

The Future of GP
After April 1st, Microsoft GP has several final milestones. A year from now, April 1st, 2026, both perpetual and subscription licenses for new customers will no longer be sold. On December 31st, 2029, Microsoft will end all product enhancements, updates, and technical support for GP. While new updates will end in 2029, it is important to note that recent updates to GP have been minor bug fixes and product support issues. The GP that you are using today is the same GP that you will have in 2029- Microsoft has not rolled out major new features for the ERP recently.
On April 30th, 2031, security updates and patches will conclude, marking the official end of Dynamic GPs lifecycle. Following this date, your business will need to find specialized GP specialists that know how the ERP works, rather than getting support from Microsoft. Your business will need to budget for inevitable future costs and risks of staying with GP up to this date.
Your Options
If you are a current GP user, these dates might seem distant, but it is important to consider your options today. Staying on GP could expose your business to extra costs and delays. If you are interested in transitioning to a cloud-based ERP, Microsoft is pushing users to consider Microsoft Dynamics. While making the switch is not as easy as a simple update, you will be able to access continuous software updates, latest AI developments, and seamless integration with other Microsoft products.
