Logan Consulting recently took a manufacturing client live on QAD’s Adaptive ERP using the AUX interface. An extremely large component of this implementation was the use of the QAD Configurator. This client is a manufacturer of custom conveyor belts and pulleys. Over 95% of all orders are custom and require rules-based configuration, often through extremely complex engineering models. Through the QAD Configurator, this client is now able to process orders through Customer Service with very minimal Engineering involvement, which is speeding the Quote and Order Entry processes.

Details

This Client’s requirements have proven the capabilities of the QAD Configurator in a complex environment. To illustrate this, the following statistics represent the how the Configurator is enabling their business:

  • 6 Master Groups representing 6 highly unique rules-based models.
  • Approximately 75 Configurable Item Numbers that can represent Finished Goods, Sub-Assemblies, and Purchased Items.
  • Multi-level BOM’s with Configurable Item at multi-levels within the BOM
  • Over 1600 Variables / Features to capture the form, fit, and function of a unique configuration.
  • Over 900 Rules and over 500 Rule Tables
  • Over 150 External Entities to both pull data into the model as well as to write data out to other tables in QAD.
  • Advanced Pricing using over 500 Pricing Parts linked to Variables and Features
  • Resulting data elements in QAD:
    • Item Master
    • Item-Site records
    • Product Structures
    • Routings
    • Variable Item Master Comments
    • Variable Routing Operation Comments
    • List Price Lists
    • Customer Net Price Lists

Summary

Though the Client requirements were extensive and complex, the QAD Configurator supplied the necessary functionality to automate the creation of large volumes of configuration-specific master data and speed the process of delivering Sales Quotes and Sales Orders to customers. Additionally, after Logan Consulting supplied initial training and side-by-side development of the initial QAD Configurator model, the Client was self-sufficient and delivered 90% of the above noted Details on their own. This ensures their ability to support the existing models and create new models without the need for consulting spend.
