Product Bundles for Sales in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management

Posted on: August 19, 2024 | By: Maya VanderWoude | Microsoft Dynamics AX/365, Microsoft Dynamics Manufacturing

In Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management (Dynamics 365 SCM), product bundles allow you to group multiple items together for sales purposes. These bundles function as a sales kit and can be used to conveniently group common items on a sales line. If you’re running Supply Chain Management version 10.0.36 or later, here’s how you can set them up:

1. Enable the Bundle Feature:

  • Go to System administration > Workspaces > Feature management.
  • Filter for the feature named Product bundle and enable it.
    • Note that if Revenue Recognition is enabled, this feature will not be available

2. Configure Bundles:

  • Open the “Released product details” page for the item you want to bundle.
  •  Under the “General” FastTab, set the “Bundle” flag to “Yes”.
  •  Create a Bill of Materials (BOM) for the released product, similar to a kit and its components.
  •  Approve and Activate the BOM for the item.

3. Order Entry for Bundles:

  • Once your bundle items are configured, add them to a sales order for picking and packing.
  • Only add the parent item, then ‘Confirm’ the Sales order to pull in the components
  • The parent item is the only item visible on external documents – the individual components are only visible on internal documents.
  •  The bundle price is calculated as the sum of the required products in the bundle.

4. Picking and Packing Bundles:

  •  When fulfilling orders, you have visibility to pick and pack the individual components of the bundle, not the parent item.

5. Invoicing Bundles:

  • Invoice the bundled items as a single unit.
  •  Revenue is posted for the individual components, not the product bundle item.
