Adopting a new ERP system can be very stressful for users that have been accustomed to their legacy system. Some of these users have been working with these systems longer than they would like to share! One of the positive aspects of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 is that it has the same look and feel to other Microsoft products, which allows for an easier transition for the end users. In this blog, we would like to share some of the very useful shortcuts available when navigating your way around Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012. These simple tricks can greatly increase your employee’s productivity and also empower them to perform their tasks more effectively.
Some of the forms in AX have a multitude of fast tabs with tons of information. An easy way to show/hide this information is to press CTRL~Shift~(+ or -). This will expand or collapse all fast tabs on the form. If you would like to apply this to just one fast tab at a time simply press CTRL~(+ or -). To advance to the next fast tab press, CTRL~Tab. If you would like to retreat backwards to the last fast tab press CTRL~Shift~Tab.
There are a couple very important ‘action’ shortcuts that can help immensely. The first one is simple, but used very frequently: CTRL~N will create a new record when available to do. CTRL~T will export the form to Excel immediately in order to do further analysis. CLTRL~F4 will close the active window. Finally, a nice shortcut for all those oops moments is, CTRL~F5. This will restore the previous value in the field that you may have accidentally deleted.
Filtering can be a key component of anyone’s daily tasks. To start, you can apply filters to any form by pressing CTRL~G. This will bring up fields to the top of the form in which you can search for certain records. So for example, if you are searching for any vendors that start with the letter ‘B’ you could type in B* in the vendor name field and it will provide that provide that information. * represents the wildcard functionality. If you want to look up between a period of dates, you would enter something like: ‘1/1/2014..12/31/2014’. That would give you all of the dates for the entire 2014 calendar year.
These are some of the key shortcuts used when navigating Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012. We hope that at least a couple of these can be utilized to make your end users’ transition to AX a little less daunting.
