Multiple MSW/PSW Workshops Prior to QAD Cutover Ease Transition

QAD provides a powerful and robust scheduling tool in its Master Scheduling and Production Scheduling Workbenches (MSW/PSW).

At a recent QAD 2016EE upgrade project, the scope including expanding the use of MSW/PSW to all production lines across the organization. This entailed many schedulers moving from disparate and differing Microsoft excel spreadsheets into one common process for scheduling using the new MSW/PSW scheduling process. Additionally, the transition included defining and establishing the required master data to support MSW/PSW, including accurate routings, production lines and production line calendars, and MSW/PSW setup.

After the initial project training and process design, the team opted to have two organized MSW/PSW scheduling workshops to make sure the team bought into the new process, understood the data required to support MSW/PSW, and the hand off to the downstream production process.

The first MSW/PSW workshop focused more on buy-in and training, while the second workshop focused on gaining final agreement that the toolset would support the business at cutover. It formed a key component of the project Validation and Testing Phase of the project methodology.

Finally, as part of the first few days of cutover, the scheduling team focused with the cutover support team to do the initial line scheduling in the Production environment.

The workshop approach above, including the final gate to approve the use of the QAD process and tools, can provided a smooth transition to expanded use of this powerful tool.
