Microsoft Dynamics GP Processes

I have written about the issue of processes and an ERP system previously, but given some recent meetings and conversations I thought it would be good to revisit the topic.  Logan Consulting has been implementing ERP and CRM systems for more than 20 years and we understand that implementing an ERP system is an important project and a Microsoft Dynamics GP implementation is no exception.  Various departments and issues are raised. Some groups are concerned about data conversion while others are concerned with financial reporting or operational reporting.  Still others are focused on system setup and architecture.  Each one of these issues is important, but over the many years one thing hasn't changed and that is ….. an ERP implementation is really all about the processes!

Microsoft Dynamics GP is a robust ERP solution and the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics GP will take time and many issues will be addressed.  However, the most important issue/task is the business processes that Microsoft Dynamics GP will facilitate.  Remember the purpose and driving force behind an ERP implementation is that the current system is broken.  The effort required to use the system to complete important business processes just doesn't work.

Therefore, if you focus the project on those important processes and ensuring the system supports those processes you will be successful.  Of course, this is easier said than done, but in our humble opinion you have to choose an implementation partner and an internal project manager that believe in this view.
