Introducing the Sales Order Agent
Posted on: May 25, 2025 | By: Page Wildridge | Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
In the 2025 Release Wave 1, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central introduces an innovative tool designed specifically to streamline sales processes—the Sales Order Agent. This powerful AI-driven agent is the first of its kind within Business Central, created to assist sales teams by automating the tedious and time-consuming tasks associated with capturing customer quotes and converting them seamlessly into sales orders.

How Can I Start Using the Sales Order Agent?
Setting up the Sales Order Agent is straightforward and user-friendly. Administrators can quickly configure the agent by linking it to a shared Microsoft 365 mailbox dedicated to handling customer emails. Once activated, the agent continuously monitors incoming communications, intelligently distinguishing between genuine sales requests and irrelevant messages or spam.
To enable the feature, click the “SO” hexagon on the home screen of Dynamics Business Central. Next, click “Activate,” and click through the options that you want to include within the agent. To define the mailbox account and get started with the feature, click the three dots next to the mailbox. Next, link your Office 365 account. After naming your mailbox, the agent will be running as soon as you hit “Update”! You can add additional users to the agents by selecting “manage user access” to get your entire sales team on the platform.
Benefits of the Sales Order Agent
The Sales Order Agent addresses common challenges faced by sales professionals, who often spend time manually reviewing emails, verifying inventory availability, and ensuring accurate customer data. With the Sales Order Agent, these manual processes are significantly reduced or eliminated entirely, empowering sales teams to focus on strategic and high-value interactions with their customers.
Ease of Use
The Agent utilizes Artificial Intelligence to make suggestions to users as they go about using their ERP. For example, if you receive an email through Outlook and find that there is not a contact associated with the account who emailed you, the agent will suggest creating a contact and the associated information on file will be included in the new contact. With just one click, you can generate a new contact card without having to input any information!
Upon receiving a customer email, the Sales Order Agent extracts relevant details such as product requests, specific materials, quantities, colors, and delivery preferences. It searches across multiple data points, including product attributes, inventory availability, extended texts, translations, and item categories, to accurately identify and propose suitable items. Human operators only need to review and confirm the agent’s proposals before sending detailed, professional responses back to customers.
Generating Sales Quotes
One standout capability of the Sales Order Agent is its ability to autonomously generate and update sales quotes. This further accelerates the sales cycle. Once customers approve these quotes, the agent automatically converts them into confirmed sales orders, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Additionally, the Sales Order Agent provides comprehensive key performance indicators (KPIs). This offers valuable insights into the time saved and tasks completed by the automation. This transparency allows sales teams to quantify their productivity gains and reallocate their efforts to relationship-building and deal-closing activities.
Administrators retain full control over the agent’s permissions and capabilities through Business Central’s intuitive profile management system. By customizing permission sets and interaction surfaces, businesses can ensure the agent aligns perfectly with their unique operational needs and compliance standards.
