Improvements to Warehouse Management
Posted on: April 30, 2025 | By: Page Wildridge | Microsoft Dynamics Business Central
Microsoft’s release wave 1 is here, and with it tons of new improvements to their ERP. These improved features are across the entire system and their different modules, including their manufacturing. In this blog, we will cover these manufacturing updates featured on Microsoft’s Youtube series about the release. Microsoft Learn puts out videos on their channel to ensure that customers understand the various improvements and how to implement them into their daily processes.

Enable Over-Picking in Production Orders
If your business needs to pick more materials than required for production orders and wants to input this information into the ERP, there is now a way to do so. You can pick full boxes or pallets out of materials, then return the unused portion to inventory. To start to utilize this feature, turn on “Allow Whse. Overpick” in the Item Card. Now, under the “Take” line in your order, you can adjust the quantity field to higher than the “quantity to handle” field. After finishing, you can have excess items moved to the warehouse through the Movement worksheet.

Warehouse Put-Aways
Users can now handle production outputs using warehouse put-away processes. This streamlines operations by aligning them with how other receipts are managed. This consistency eliminates the need to juggle different document types and is especially helpful in environments using Directed Put-Away and Pick, where standard inventory documents aren’t available. Depending on your location settings, warehouse put-away documents can be created automatically or through the “Put-Away Worksheet”. If needed, you can also manually recreate a deleted put-away from the Released or Finished Production Order pages.
Omit Warehouse Pick
Microsoft is introducing a new flushing method called “Pick+Manual”, expanding the existing list of options for production order consumption. This method is ideal for components stored on the shop floor that don’t require warehouse picking but still need manual consumption posting—such as items with variable usage or tracking requirements. Activating the feature in the Feature Management page updates the behavior of the Manual method so it no longer requires picking, converting existing Manual records to “Pick+Manual” to preserve original workflows.
