Dynamics GP Upgrade Checklist

Posted on: April 26, 2022 | By: Jim Bertler | Microsoft Dynamics GP

Dynamics GP’s updated lifecycle policy states that users of Dynamics GP 2018 or Dynamics GP 2018 R2 are a part of the Modern Lifecycle Policy, meaning they will be provided support until 2028 and onwards.

Current GP users with older versions are able to be awarded this policy by simply updating their system. In order to update your GP software, you must ensure that your system is set up for an update. Here is a brief checklist to go over if you are considering upgrading to Dynamics GP 2018 or Dynamics GP 2018 R2 so that you can be on the Modern Lifecycle Policy:

  1. Verify the security of your system.
  2. Check to make sure that you have the latest version of the Upgrade Guide.
  3. Go over the Readme file to make note of the items that are relevant to your organization.
  4. Obtain your new registration keys for Dynamics GP.
  5. Check and verify system requirements as well as expand your SQL database size if it’s needed.
  6. Identify all integrating products and customizations, and check to make sure that they are compatible with Dynamics GP.
  7. Make sure that all pre-upgrade procedures for your current system are completed.
  8. Install Dynamics GP on the server and upgrade your accounting data.
  9. Complete post-upgrade procedures for relevant Dynamics GP modules.
  10. Upgrade any additional components and customizations.
  11. Install Dynamics GP on the clients.
  12. Double check to make sure there are no errors.
