Microsoft Retires Tax Updates in US Payroll Feature

Posted on: January 24, 2020 | By: Guy Logan | Microsoft Dynamics AX/365

Microsoft has announced that it will be discontinuing tax updates for the US payroll feature in Dynamics 365 for Finance and Supply Chain Management and Dynamics AX. You still have plenty of time to adjust to this news and assess your long-term payroll needs because the tax updates will not be fully eliminated until October 1, 2021.

Why is Microsoft doing this?

Microsoft is choosing to remove these updates in their programs mainly due to low usage. Additionally, other ISV solutions exist that support this main feature. Some of these partner solutions on AppSource also have enhanced functionality compared to the different programs in Microsoft.

What does this mean for customers?

This news has no impact on your ability to use the US Payroll feature, it simply means Microsoft will no longer be proving updates for it. If you’re currently a customer using this feature, you can continue using the functionality updates you’ve already added as normal. Customers are encouraged to work with their partners to figure out the best way to continue future payroll usage.
