Microsoft Dynamics GP in the Cloud

Posted on: July 2, 2013 | By: Jim Bertler | Microsoft Dynamics GP

Recently Microsoft announced the availability of Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Dynamics NAV on the Azure platform in the cloud.  This may not matter a ton to the average user (more on that later), but I thought I would take this opportunity to talk about Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) in the cloud.

We are consistently talking with clients and prospects about the opportunity to deploy Microsoft Dynamics GP in the cloud. Since Microsoft Dynamics GP has been around for so long many people think it is only available via an on-premises deployment.  However, this is simply not the case.  Dynamics GP can be deployed via either method.

In fact, Microsoft announced a few days ago that Microsoft Dynamics GP and Microsoft Dynamics NAV would be available on Microsoft's Azure platform.  This is mainly a technical note and not something the average user cares about.  However, it is further proof of Microsoft's commitment to put Dynamics GP (Great Plains) in the cloud.  If  you are interested you can read the announcement here

Logan Consulting is a Microsoft Dynamics GP Partner based in Chicago and we are committed to both deployment methods.  Our objective is to find the right deployment method for each client.  The reality is that the implementation effort and subsequent upgrade efforts are really no different regardless of the deployment method. I know this is hard to believe, but we have experience in both environments with the same successful results and total implementation cost.  Obviously, the software and licensing costs are different, but the time and effort to deploy is really about the same.
