Microsoft Dynamics GP and Windows 8

Posted on: January 21, 2014 | By: Jim Bertler | Microsoft Dynamics GP

Logan Consulting is preparing for the Microsoft Convergence show coming up in March and we also attended the Technical Airlift in Fargo back in October.  There was a ton of great information available and there will be more at Convergence, but one thing became clear. Microsoft Dynamics GP and Windows 8 are the future of GP.  Going forward you can expect to see Time and Expense Approvals, Workflow Approvals and Procurement all handled via Windows 8 Apps.

Microsoft will continue to enhance the core Dynamics GP product, but there is definitely a push to build apps around the solution.  This should help companies reduce the need for full users, but still allow people to consume information in Dynamics GP or touch GP for simple tasks like approvals of time and expenses or other purchases.

I think the other key takeaway was that this wasn't an integration.  It will truly be an app that works on your device that allows you to interact with Dynamics GP.  Just like the apps on your smart phone operate today.

I think this is a great direction for Microsoft and Dynamics GP.  We will continue to post about things we learn, but feel free to contact us with questions.
