Is Microsoft Investing in Microsoft Dynamics GP

We have been Microsoft partners since 2002 so 13 years at this point.  Like every relationship it has had its ups and downs.  After attending today's Microsoft Dynamics GP Product and Roadmap session I have to say that things are on the up.  Microsoft has really enhanced and improved Dynamics GP over the last few years.  We often hear complaints that Microsoft doesn’t enhance Dynamics GP with each new release.  In fact, Microsoft has added over 250 new features with the release of GP 2013, GP 2013 R2 and GP 2015.  I will tell you that if you are looking for a big change to such things as journal entries, customers or vendors you will probably be sorely disappointed.  However, if you want apps for time entry that are platform independent (Windows, Apple or Android), workflows to drive business process, business intelligence through Power BI or other tools than you will likely be pleased.

Microsoft does make changes to basic screens like allowing you to copy and paste from Excel into a journal entry screen.  However, the truth is that there is not a big need for changes to base functionality.  People want to streamline processes, use mobility and get data out of Dynamics GP and this is where Microsoft is investing.

The session I attended today talked a great deal about the web client and enhancements and changes to the web client.  Check out the picture below from the session showing a purchasing all in one screen.  This functionality will come in June of 2015 and is part of GP 2015 R2.  However, many companies aren’t even on GP 2013 which introduced the overall web client functionality.

I have included a detailed PowerPoint presentation that highlights the improvements of Dynamics GP 2013 and  2015.  I think after a quick review of this document you will agree Microsoft has indeed invested in Dynamics GP 2015.

So I came away from the session happy to be a Chicago based Microsoft Dynamics GP partner.
