QAD’s Configurator Provides these Four Advantages

Posted on: July 21, 2021 | By: David Kwo | QAD Manufacturing, QAD Business Process

QAD’s Configurator allows users to configure a custom product in any way they desire while ensuring it is a valid and feasible combination. Configurator is a great solution to the ever-rising demand of customizable and complex products and reduces the risk of lapses in communication between Salespeople and Engineers that may lead to sales your company cannot fulfill.

This tool allows users to create a set of defined rules and dependencies that establish the limits of possible customization options, eliminating the need for technologically knowledgeable Salespeople or Customer Service Representatives and simplifying the process of calculating product price and cost.

Below are four specific benefits provided by QAD’s Configurator.

 1) Simplifies complicated product options and enables essential self service

As a Salesperson, Customer Service Representative, or a Customer enters orders, they must select components that create a valid configuration. This saves time and costs by ensuring that non-feasible configurations are not ordered and makes it unnecessary for Sales or Customer Service employees to have technical knowledge about the engineering of a product.

2) Identifies existing (re-use) or new configurations

The system saves past configurations, which can then be used to easily place additional orders for specific configured products or to add on to established configurations. This also prevents the creation of new Item Numbers that are the same form, fit, and function of an existing Item Number.

3) Automatically builds master data to eliminate Engineering overhead – Items, BOM, Routings, etc.

In environments where the combination of selected features in the configuration model can result in hundreds or thousands (or more) of unique configurations, the Configurator eliminates the burden put on Engineering to create Item Numbers, supporting inventory and planning data, Bills of Material, and Routings. The Configurator provides a rules engine that can automate the creation of all these datasets immediately upon the creation of a new configuration in a Sales Order or Sales Quote.

4) Simplifies complex pricing

The Configurator supports multiple pricing methodologies that include the application of QAD’s Best Pricing model, a roll-up of pricing for selected features within the configuration, relating pricing of components within the BOM configuration to the configuration as a whole, or the writing of custom rules to calculate the price based on any defined criteria in the model. Applying one or more of these approaches can support any pricing policy and ensures consistency and accuracy of pricing.
