Microsoft Dynamics GP Upgrade and Release Cycle

We perform a number of Microsoft Dynamics GP upgrades for clients in the Chicago area and also in other parts of the US.  We find that we often get the question “When is a new release of Dynamics GP scheduled”.  Recently, Microsoft has committed to doing a release every six months and has been delivering on that schedule.  The specific items that have been identified ahead of time are indeed in the scheduled release.  The graphic below shows the high level plan for Microsoft Dynamics GP releases over the next few years.

I believe the every six month cycle is appropriate for Dynamics GP.  This provides great new functionality to clients and allows them enough time to understand and adopt the new functionality as well.  From the graphic above you can see that workflows and what Microsoft calls “companion apps” are coming soon.  Companion apps are expected to be Windows 8 apps for Time and Expense, Workflow Management and Purchase Requisition Management.  It will be interesting to see how things develop and learn more of the details.  The big Microsoft Convergence conference is coming up in early March so I expect to have a ton of information to present in a few short weeks.
